Carboxy Methyl Cellulose (CMC)

Carboxy Methyl Cellulose (CMC) – API 13A Viscosifier & Fluid Loss Control in China

Filtron Envirotech (India) is a leading manufacturer, exporter and supplier of oil drilling chemicals and specialty Carboxy Methyl Cellulose (CMC). Based in Delhi, our manufacturing facility produces CMC polymer that meets API 13A specifications. Our cellulose‑based viscosifiers are available in High Viscosity (HV), Medium Viscosity (MV), and Low Viscosity (LV) grades to suit diverse downhole conditions. These additives are exported worldwide and trusted for consistent performance in water‑based drilling fluids.

Carboxy Methyl Cellulose (CMC) is a non‑ionic/anionic polymer derived from natural cellulose. It serves dual functions – as a viscosity builder and fluid loss reducer in both fresh water and salt water mud systems. The HV grade enhances yield point and cuttings carrying capacity; the LV grade provides superior filtration control without increasing viscosity excessively. The MV grade offers a balanced performance for general applications. All grades are thermally stable, biodegradable, and compatible with a wide range of brine systems including KCl, NaCl, MgCl₂, and CaCl₂.

Advantages:

  • Economical filtration control – Reduces API fluid loss at lower treatment concentrations.
  • Works in all water types – Effective in KCl, NaCl, MgCl₂, CaCl₂, and mixed salt systems.
  • Stabilizes rheology – Maintains plastic viscosity, yield point, and gel strength over time.
  • Provides wellbore stability and filtration control – Builds thin, low‑permeability filter cake.
  • Non‑damaging to formations – Preserves permeability in reservoir sections.
  • Contains preservatives – Prevents bacterial degradation during storage and use.
  • Performs over a wide pH range – Stable from pH 4.5 to 11.0, suitable for alkaline or acidic muds.
