Causticized Lignite – High‑Temperature Fluid Loss & Rheology Control in Germany

Filtron Envirotech (India) is a leading manufacturer, exporter and supplier of oil drilling chemicals and specialty causticized lignite. This chemically modified lignite compound is partially soluble and designed to produce thin, low‑permeability filter cakes with very low fluid loss. Our causticized lignite improves overall fluid loss properties and is manufactured at our Delhi facility, with exports to drilling operators worldwide.

Causticized lignite is used for rheology control, filtration control, and pH buffering in water‑based muds – without requiring additional caustic soda treatments. It is especially effective at stabilizing mud properties when exposed to high temperatures and contaminants (cement, salts, drilled solids). It works synergistically with lignosulfonates in dispersed systems and can be used in any water‑based fluid (fresh water, sea water, brine). Normal recommended treatments range from 2.85 kg/m³ to 28.5 kg/m³ (1‑10 lb/bbl). In high‑salinity systems, pre‑mixing in fresh water improves dispersability.

Causticized lignite extends the temperature limitation of water‑based fluids, maintains rheology under HPHT conditions, and reduces flocculation. It also helps emulsify small amounts of oil and lowers HTHP fluid loss. Field experience shows it significantly improves filter cake quality by lowering permeability, leading to better wellbore stability and reduced differential sticking.
